The normal flora of the respiratory tract at our service? – potential probiotics for respiratory tract infections

The global increase in antibiotic resistance has accentuated the need for new treatment strategies for severe respiratory tract infections. Probiotics have well-known health promoting effects on the gastrointestinal tract. Here, we want to investigate whether the normal flora of the respiratory tract can be used as probiotics to treat or prevent the occurrence of serious respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia.
