Sleep Groups “Key to Academic Success and Mental Health for Young People”
Gita Hedin
The aim of the project is to evaluate whether the participation of adolescents in sleep groups can improve or affect individual sleep duration and sleep quality, as well as to evaluate whether participation in sleep groups affected school performance and mental health.
“A room of one’s own at Skarhult Castle, about women’s rest through the ages” book exhibition interviews
Skarhults kulturminne Ideell förening
The project aims at public education about rest. Create knowledge and interest regarding recovery. Middle-aged women with full calendars often cannot answer what they do when they are off work. Time off? They are mothers, daughters, partners, daughters-in-law, friends, colleagues, sisters before it is time for resting. The aim is to encourage people to have the courage to press the pause button, to learn about the benefits of taking a break and to present different ideas on what to do while resting.
Light, our spy in space – a public education project on the origin of the elements
Henrik Hartman
We believe it is important to give children and young people an insight into the scientific method and to encourage the pursuit of knowledge. Especially in an age coloured by social media rumours and the post-truth phenomenon. Performing arts and science are an educational dream team. Giving voice to atoms allows the audience to relate to them and makes learning more fun. The atoms’ dialogue with the scientist allows for clarification of the material, making it easier to absorb.
Malmö’s first textile entrepreneurs – the history of the emergence and development of the cotton textile industry in Malmö
Institutet för studier i Malmös historia, Malmö Universitet
The aim of the project is to investigate the start-up and development of the cotton textile industry in Malmö from 1850 to 1920, to highlight a) key actors in the process, b) the role the cotton textile industry played in the industrial development of Malmö, and c) how that process is linked to international economic and industrial development. We want to make this accessible to the public, as we believe that knowledge of history is a central part of people’s identity.
Lecture tour on a tandem bicycle in rural Sweden: Research on ageing and health
Lunds universitet
The overall aim is to strengthen awareness and interest in research on ageing and health and its scientific processes. This is to promote empowerment, democracy and trust in research. It aims to communicate the value of public engagement in research and to strengthen the recruitment of participants to specific research studies. The lecture tour is a way of interacting with the surrounding community for mutual exchange, which is incumbent on LU under the Higher Education Act.
I will tell you
Malmö Folkhögskola
We want to work with storytelling as an educational initiative to reach those participants who have difficulty speaking in front of others and have low confidence in their own abilities. These difficulties affect everything from school assignments to contact with authorities and social relationships. In the long term, this can also affect their chances of establishing themselves in the labour market.
Science communication and the battle for knowledge – a dialogue between researchers, media, policy makers and the public
Jimmie Kristensson
The aim is to increase, and at the same time broaden, the understanding of research communication through cross-border dialogue to increase understanding of the importance of research in safeguarding a democratic dialogue. We have a polarised social climate with occasionally heated debate on politically charged topics. The university’s role as a credible communicator of knowledge is more important than ever, while at the same time it has become increasingly complex for researchers to communicate their results.
Developing new radiation protection glasses in dentistry
Carina Wihlborg
To improve the work environment for all dental staff in Sweden and hopefully worldwide, as there are currently no good protective glasses for UV and blue light in the profession. According to studies, we run a high risk of developing several different chronic eye diseases if we do not use proper protective glasses.
Novel Emulsion Systems for a Healthier World: Pioneering Sustainable and Natural Delivery of Bioactives
Emulsi Biotech AB
We believe in a shift towards sustainable plant-based emulsion systems and see a gap in the market for our patented solution. We want to commercialize our product, a sustainable encapsulation system, initially targeting omega-3 and iron supplementation. We apply for funding to develop our idea into a prototype with long shelf-life and proven functionality. This is needed to continue our work towards attractive products on the market and will be crucial for future funding.
Digitised Adapted Support
Anpassat Stöd Sverige AB
The purpose of the prototype is to identify, categorise and systematise the knowledge that exists among parents of children with functional variations (LSS) and concretise these knowledge assets in a new digital format. Adapted Support has developed a methodology that involves initially carrying out a needs analysis of the whole family’s situation. This is the part to be developed in the first prototype. The prototype will result in a digital model that can be applied on a larger scale.
Botildenborg Social Innovation Living Lab
Stiftelsen Botildenborg
By starting Botildenborg Social Innovation Living Lab, we can increase knowledge about social entrepreneurship, measure impact and evaluate social initiatives. The knowledge will form the basis for the development of social entrepreneurship, the opportunity to build the business and contribute to increased knowledge. In October 2024, the Urban Food and Farming conference will be held to focus on social entrepreneurship and the collaboration between Botildenborg and the universities.
Green production of filter materials for phosphorus capture (GreenPcap)
Diapure AB
The goal is to upscale production and launch a sustainable filter material for the P capture and recycling market adopting a new production technology. This requires that DiaPure can design the material accordingly, and proper documentaiton of P filter performance and its environmental sustainability. Thus we will map and optimize critical process variables in parallel with materials characterization, full scale performance testing and with an environmental impact and performance assessment.
In the service of the country
Fredrik Alvén
The manuscript, In the service of the country, deals with two topics that are currently debated in high tones and sometimes with more emotion than knowledge; the school and its problems and who the citizen is and perhaps above all should be. It is my hope that the manuscript will both show why the school, and the problems it faces today, looks the way it does, and that the debate about the citizen, who he or she is and should be, will be nuanced and placed in a historical context. In this way, the project can provide perspective and a basis for constructive debate.
Mikael Ottosson
Mikael Ottosson
At a time when people’s geographical movement is being questioned, I want to highlight the importance of labour migration in a historical perspective. This applies not least to Sweden’s industrialisation. In both research and popular science contexts, the transfer of industrial knowledge to Sweden has been linked to prominent researchers and far-sighted industrial leaders. This project instead studies how industrial workers acquired practice-oriented technical knowledge through study trips abroad.
The myths of entrepreneurship
Marie Löwegren
The purpose of this publication is to increase knowledge about entrepreneurship in society and thus create a more accurate picture of what entrepreneurship is and means. It is unfortunate, for example, that entrepreneurial role models often include people like Elon Musk or Daniel Ek. These do not reflect the average entrepreneur at all and create a distorted image of entrepreneurship, which in turn has consequences for how, for example, support organisations and societal decision-makers act.
How do we accomplish person-centredness? Textbook on person-centredness in research, education and practice
Anna-Karin Edberg
The aim is to support the implementation of person-centredness in healthcare, education and research. Existing theories and frameworks provide little guidance on how to implement the knowledge in practice. Through the book, such knowledge can be made available to those it concerns health professionals, students, teachers, researchers and policy makers. By involving those affected and starting from their perspective, it is ensured that the book will be useful to the target groups and beneficial to healthcare.
The Staircase of Art – Staircase Paintings in Malmö 1930 – 1940
Tobias Hultén
Time is relentless, and the art treasures that the houses in Malmö conceal are slowly disappearing through wear and tear, negligent renovations or vandalism. By producing this book, we want to increase pride in staircase art among residents and property owners and highlight a forgotten category of skilled craftsmen. We also want to make the artworks accessible to an audience that does not have access to the houses and show the uniqueness of this part of Malmö’s art and architectural history.
Letters from ‘Caesareans’ – an anthology of women who have had children but not given birth to them
Erica Elfström
We thought this anthology already existed. Given that so many women undergo emergency caesarean sections every year, someone must have written a similar book. But we haven’t found anything like it. The motive is therefore obvious, that we want to create an anthology that women can read to gain a deeper insight into the experience of an emergency section. An opportunity for the reader to reflect on the stories of others and feel less alone in an experience that is talked about far too little.
Proteogenomic analysis of ESR1 mutated breast cancers
Tommaso De Marchi
Mutations in the estrogen receptor are responsible of resistance to standard treatments, and so far no effective alternative drug regimens have been implemented in the clinic. We believe that our proteogenomic workflow can be applied to analyze clinical samples with expressed estrogen receptor mutations to derive alternative drug targets and biomarkers to validate in our model systems and additional clinical cohorts.
Precision medicine for sepsis in the ICU using proteomics
Attila Frigyesi
Our project aims to diagnose and characterise sepsis and ultimately tailor the treatment of sepsis and ARDS using protein profiles. Today, new proteomics methods (such as mass spectrometry) can analyse thousands of proteins at a time from a drop of blood. Our hope is that with protein profiling and artificial intelligence we will be able to diagnose and characterise severe sepsis and ARDS and offer each patient the best treatment.
